On
the Glenelg Highway, about an hour drive from the South Australian
border lies a small town called Coleraine, population 1,300
people.
Coleraine's claims to fame include the home of cosmetics queen
Helena Rubinstein and having the largest collection of Australian
native plants in the Southern Hemisphere.
Coleraine is also the home of the Kolberg family.
In 1967, Manfred and Erica Kolberg arrived in Australia from
Bavaria in Germany, where Manfred had learnt the great German
traditions of chocolate making.
Initially working for Mac Robertson's chocolates here in Melbourne,
the Kolberg's were soon lured to the country lifestyle and
thus the move to Coleraine just outside of Hamilton in Western
Victoria.
With the ambition of making their own traditional handmade
chocolates, the Kolberg's established themselves in 1986 and
since that time have been making exclusive German handmade
truffles and creams for wineries, lavender farms and other
specialty outlets.
With numerous prizes for chocolate excellence including Gold
Medals from The Royal Melbourne Show, Hahndorf's brings the
German traditions to Melbourne.
We welcome you to select your own combinations of milk, dark
or white chocolates with over 19 varieties of truffles and
creams in the range or enjoy a coffee while sampling the chocolates
with our compliments.
